The countryside and the Fighter Planes
My heart races occasionally, it's not angina (I hope) it's more likely the low level military aircraft that zoom over the house en route to sneak up the valley, over Ludlow and under the radar at Clee Hill. The sound of them penetrates your entire body. If I'm gardening it can make me tearful; so awesome the sound.
Sometimes I briefly consider what it must be like in a war-torn environment with the sound of these aircraft approaching; seconds to spare as the metal monster bears down on its target. I push the thought from my mind as soon as possible.
Investigating these planes I found a brilliant site, its pictures exquisite. Take a peek if you have the time: http://www.targeta.co.uk/low_level_uklfs.htm

It wouldn't surprise me if that made your heart race. The body is strange and those low level planes screw up other animals too. I think it makes wales beach themselves or something like that. I forget. Sorry you have to deal with that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should get your heart and other stuff checked. Like your ears.
We live in a garrison town, not far from Salisbury Plain so military aircraft, be it jets or helicopters, are an (almost) every day occurence. I know what you mean about making your heart race, they are pretty amazing sights.
ReplyDeleteAfter 9/11 fighter jets flew over NYC when airspace was closed to commercial jets. It made my blood run cold every time. Eerie - is what it is!
ReplyDeleteloveable_homebody: When I take the car in for its service I might ask them to plug me into the diagnostics too! Must say, my 5yo boy loves watching the aircraft. Occasionally when we eat in the garden of an evening, it's like 'dinner and a show'.....
ReplyDeletePreviously (Very) Lost in France: Oo yes, can't work out whether it's awsome bad or awesome good...'spose it's both.
'Cross the Pond: Oh gosh, yes I bet that was really terrifying. I went to NYC with four other girlfriends the year before 9/11. We stayed in a hotel by the World Trade Centre. One year on and our hotel was gone. Frightening.
