Gardening in Pictures, part III

Onions and garlic are going well.

Strawberries basking in the sun...

Fat Hen.... no, not you, the plant, the weed, it's called Fat Hen. It is delicious, although in large amounts it can be toxic, (so can wine!!) Cooking it as you would spinach reduces the potency.

The pumpkins, courgettes, peas, beans and sweetcorn are really motoring along. I'm going to start serving mini courgettes with butter at dinner and pickling the glut.

I may have overdone the potatoes!!

  2. They joys of anticipating the glut season - it's amazing what you can think up to do with it: spanish omlettes with all those potatoes and they freeze really well!

  3. Tattie: It's all I can do not to dig them up right now, (Lurpak in one hand, hot new potato in the other.)

  4. We planted 90 odd potato plants so should be sel sufficient in potatoes until approximately 2014. Our sweetcorn was a disaster though. We had the first of our beetroot in a salad last night with fresh wild trout caught by our neighbour and swapped for a bag of our baby spinach. Who got the best deal?

Previously (Very) Lost in France: Phew, I only planted 60, so will pop over to yours about 2012!

Whisper please... my sweetcorn is doing really well, wish I'd done more now as I've just got 12.

Wild Trout, yum-eee. I cooked baby courgettes, with their flower heads, in garlic butter last night. Served over pasta with lamb stock.... Sounds good eh? Not the meal I'd planned; I though the lamb stock was ragu sauce, but the freezer label had fallen off!!
